Michael McLeod joined the University of California, Merced, in April 2016, bringing more than 30 years of experience and leadership in facilities construction and operations leadership to his role.

Prior to joining UC Merced, McLeod spent 15 years at Arizona State University where he led research construction and operations. He served as director of research infrastructure at the Biodesign Institute, that university’s largest bioscience institute and the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certified building in the state. Biodesign also gained international recognition when it received R&D Magazine’s Lab of the Year award in 2006 and became the third LEED Platinum research facility in the world.

McLeod served as general manager of Site Services with Intel Corporation for 16 years before he joined Arizona State. With Intel, he worked on numerous sites around the world. He directed infrastructure development for two of Intel’s “green field” sites in Folsom, Calif. and Chandler, Ariz. While in Santa Clara, Calif., McLeod directed site operations for three Intel campuses with corporate headquarters: the company’s largest research and development fabrication facility and two production fabrication facilities.

In recent years, McLeod been a presenter at the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories Conference in San Diego; the U.S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild conference in Phoenix; the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) International Conference in Dallas; and the International Conference on Research Facilities in Scottsdale, Ariz.

McLeod earned certifications from the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and the Project Management Institute (PMA) and received a LEED AP lifetime award from the U.S. Green Building Council.
